 TRAFFIC SAFETY RESOURCE PROSECUTOR

  

                PURPOSE:                 To improve the ability of the state’s prosecutors to effectively  prosecute serious traffic safety

                                                    violations, particularly focusing on the following crimes:

                                                      ·        Negligent homicide

            ·        Vehicle crashes involving personal injury

            ·        Operating under the influence of or while impaired by alcohol and/or a controlled substance

            ·        Operating on a suspended or revoked license

 

                 OBJECTIVES:          The objectives of the Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor are:

                                                      ·        To provide continuing professional education opportunities

                  to all new prosecuting and assistant prosecuting attorneys

                  to improve their ability to effectively prosecute traffic safety violations

            ·        To provide continuing professional education opportunities

                  to experienced prosecuting and assistant prosecuting attorneys

                  to improve the ability to effectively prosecute more complex traffic

                  safety violations, such as negligent homicide or felony drunk driving

            ·        To provide quality, up to date legal reference material and training to assist

               prosecutors,  law enforcement officers and other traffic safety cases

            ·        To provide a dedicated liaison between and among the state’s prosecutors,

                  law enforcement and the traffic safety community to work for better

                  coordination in the prosecution of serious traffic safety violations

            ·        To provide information and education to the motoring public, law enforcement,

               prosecutors and traffic safety professionals.
